DriveReel Support

What DriveReel does
DriveReel turns a drive you already own into a TV-style library on your iPhone. It sorts the files into Movies, TV Shows, Home Videos, Photos, Music and Files. It reads everything on your iPhone, works offline, and needs no account.
Connecting a drive
- USB-C iPhone: plug the drive straight into the USB-C port, or use a USB-C to USB-A adapter for older drives.
- Lightning iPhone: use Apple’s Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter. Many drives need extra power, so plug the adapter into a charger too.
- SD cards: use an SD card reader. Camera cards work like drives.
- Open DriveReel, tap Connect a Drive and choose your drive in the folder picker. DriveReel only sees what you choose.
- Fully supported: APFS, Mac OS Extended (HFS+), exFAT, FAT32.
- Read only: NTFS, which is common on Windows PCs. iPhone can read NTFS but can’t change it, so you can watch and browse, but renaming, moving and removing files are turned off.
- The drive must have a single partition.
What plays
- Video: MP4, MOV and M4V play in DriveReel, with .srt and .vtt subtitles, Picture in Picture and AirPlay. MKV, AVI, WMV, FLV, WebM, TS, M2TS and MTS files show in your library but don’t play in DriveReel yet. Open the title and tap Open in Another App.
- Photos: JPG, HEIC and PNG. Camera RAW files (DNG, CR2, CR3, NEF, ARW, RAF, ORF, RW2) are listed too, and display if iPhone supports that camera’s RAW format.
- Music: MP3, M4A, AAC, WAV, FLAC and AIFF, with Lock Screen controls.
- Documents: PDF, Word, Pages, text, RTF, Markdown, Excel, Numbers, CSV, PowerPoint and Keynote open in a read-only preview.
- Posters and details: DriveReel uses poster, folder and cover images on your drive, and .nfo metadata files. It creates a poster when there isn’t one.
Free and DriveReel Plus
- Free: one drive at a time, plus the built-in Sample Library, with your full library, playback, photos, music and search. Switching to a different drive removes the old drive’s library from your iPhone. Nothing on either drive changes.
- DriveReel Plus (a one-time purchase, not a subscription) adds unlimited drives, Organize (rename, move, new folders, find duplicates, remove to DriveReel Trash), custom posters and accent colors.
- DriveReel Trash (Put Back and Empty) is always free, so your files are never held behind a purchase.
Restore Purchases
On a new iPhone, or after reinstalling, go to Settings → DriveReel Plus → Restore Purchases. The same button is on the DriveReel Plus screen. Make sure you’re signed in with the Apple Account you bought it with. If the purchase is waiting for approval (for example, Ask to Buy), Plus unlocks as soon as it’s approved.
Family Sharing
DriveReel Plus supports Family Sharing. If your family organizer has turned on purchase sharing, everyone in the family group gets Plus. If it doesn’t appear, tap Restore Purchases. Plus turns off if the person leaves the family group or the purchase is refunded.
Refunds
Purchases are handled by Apple, so we can’t issue refunds ourselves. Request one at https://reportaproblem.apple.com. If a refund is approved, Plus turns off. Your library stays, and anything in DriveReel Trash can still be put back or emptied for free.
How DriveReel Trash works
- Remove (Plus) never deletes. It moves the file or folder into a DriveReel Trash folder on the same drive, after a confirmation that names what’s moving and how much space it takes, including everything inside folders.
- Put Back: Settings → the drive → DriveReel Trash → Put Back returns items to where they were. If something with the same name is already there, DriveReel stops and tells you instead of overwriting it. Put Back never deletes anything.
- Empty permanently deletes everything in DriveReel Trash, after a second confirmation that lists the files and the space they use. It can’t be undone.
- Put Back and Empty are always free.
- DriveReel Trash lives on the drive, so it still uses space there until you empty it.
Forget a drive
Settings → the drive → Forget This Drive removes that drive’s library, its posters (including ones you chose), resume points and watch history from your iPhone, and clears your recent searches. Nothing on the drive is deleted, and DriveReel Trash stays on the drive. Connect the drive again any time to rebuild its library.
Your files
- DriveReel works with files on your own drive. Only use it with videos, music, photos and documents you own or have the right to use.
- DriveReel only changes your drive when you use Organize or DriveReel Trash. “Remove” moves files into DriveReel Trash on the same drive, where you can put them back. Files are permanently deleted only when you tap Empty and confirm, and that can’t be undone.
- Keep a backup of anything you can’t replace. Drives can fail, and files deleted with Empty, in the Files app or on a computer can’t be recovered by DriveReel.
- Don’t unplug the drive while DriveReel is moving files.
- DriveReel is provided under Apple’s standard license agreement: https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/
Troubleshooting
- Drive doesn’t appear: open the Files app → Browse. If the drive isn’t listed there, iPhone can’t see it yet. Try a powered hub or a charger on the adapter, because bigger drives need more power.
- “Not plugged in” when it is: unplug, wait a few seconds, plug it back in and reopen DriveReel. If that doesn’t work, go to Settings → the drive → Reconnect and choose it again. Your library and resume points are kept.
- New files are missing: DriveReel checks for changes each time you plug in. If you changed files while connected, tap Settings → the drive → Rescan Now.
- Can’t rename or move: the drive is probably NTFS (read only), or Organize needs DriveReel Plus.
- A video won’t play: check the format list above. Damaged files may not open.
- Plus price won’t load: the App Store needs an internet connection to load the price and complete a purchase. After that, Plus works offline.
