DriveReel Privacy Policy

DriveReel is an iPhone app that plays and organizes the videos, photos, music and documents on a drive you connect, such as a USB-C drive, SSD or SD card. It’s made by Zack Gabbard (“we”, “us”).

The short version. DriveReel collects no data. It has no accounts, no sign-in, no analytics, no ads, no tracking and no third-party code. Nothing you do in DriveReel is sent to us, and we don’t run any servers for it.

What DriveReel does on your iPhone. You choose a drive or folder with Apple’s folder picker, and DriveReel can only see what you choose. To build your library, it reads the names, sizes and dates of the files and folders there, plus any posters, artwork, subtitles and .nfo metadata files it finds. It plays or previews a file when you open it. All of this happens on your iPhone.

What DriveReel saves, and where. DriveReel saves the following inside the app, on your iPhone only:

• your library index: file names, folders, sizes, dates, and the titles and details it found
• posters it creates from your videos, and posters you choose yourself
• where you stopped watching, what you’ve watched, and any “Sort As” corrections
• your settings and recent searches
• a saved permission (a “bookmark”) that lets DriveReel reopen your drive, plus details it uses to recognize the drive again: its name, capacity, ID, and the names of up to 40 items at its top level
• the sample files, if you load the Sample Library

None of this is sent to us or anyone else.

Posters from your photos. If you choose a custom poster (DriveReel Plus), Apple’s photo picker opens. DriveReel receives only the photo you pick and saves a resized copy on your iPhone. It can’t see the rest of your photo library.

Changes on your drive. DriveReel only changes files on your drive when you ask it to: with Organize (DriveReel Plus), or with Put Back and Empty in DriveReel Trash, which are always free. “Remove” moves files into a “DriveReel Trash” folder on the same drive, together with a small file recording where they came from, so you can put them back. Files are permanently deleted only when you tap Empty and confirm. DriveReel never changes a read-only drive.

Purchases. DriveReel Plus is sold through Apple’s App Store. When DriveReel opens, it checks with Apple’s App Store (StoreKit) whether you own DriveReel Plus, and loads its price. That’s the only connection DriveReel makes. Apple handles the payment, and we never see your payment details or your Apple Account. Apple features you choose to use. Some iPhone features work outside DriveReel and are controlled by Apple and by you:

• AirPlay sends what you’re watching to the screen or speaker you pick.
• The Share button in a file preview sends the file wherever you choose.
• Cloud folders: if you pick a folder in iCloud Drive or another cloud service, that service may download the files.
• Now Playing: song titles can show on your Lock Screen and connected devices.
• Backups: if you back up your iPhone to iCloud or a computer, the backup may include DriveReel’s saved library, posters and settings, as it does for any app. We can’t access your backups.

No tracking. DriveReel doesn’t track you across apps or websites. It doesn’t use advertising identifiers, and it doesn’t share or sell information, because it has none to share.

Deleting your data.

• One drive: Settings → the drive → Forget This Drive removes that drive’s library, its posters (including ones you chose), resume points, watch history and saved permission from your iPhone, and clears your recent searches. Nothing on the drive is touched.
• Everything: deleting DriveReel removes everything it saved on your iPhone. Copies in iPhone backups follow your backup settings.
• DriveReel Trash: files in it stay on your drive until you empty it, even if you forget the drive or delete the app.

Children. DriveReel is rated 4+. It collects no information from anyone, including children under 13.

California and other US state privacy rights. State laws such as California’s give you rights to know, delete, correct, and opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of your personal information. DriveReel doesn’t collect personal information, and we don’t sell or share it or use it for targeted ads or profiling. So we hold nothing to access, delete or correct, and nothing to opt out of. Changes to this policy. If DriveReel ever starts handling information differently, we’ll update this page and the date at the top before the change reaches the app.
